te Where I Walk Tall: An Overnight Stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

An Overnight Stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

From my first international travel in Singapore, I am taking you to my most recent travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

I was feeling hopeless that I wouldn't get to travel internationally this year because of different priorities. Since my first travel abroad in 2008, my passport always gets an immigration stamp every year. A pleasant surprise came in my inbox last Tuesday - an invitation to a Red Hot Party in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

If there is anything that I would like to share with aspiring travel bloggers, or wanderers, always make sure that you are travel-ready. Meaning, your passport is not expiring within 6 months from date of departure and flight back to home country. You wouldn't know when an invitation from the Prince of Wales would come. It is always good to have your documents ready.

It was not my first time in Malaysia, but my first in Kuala Lumpur. AirAsia is the same carrier that brought me to Kota Kinabalu last year - an interesting island in Borneo with beautiful beaches. Last weekend, it was a trip to the bright city of Kuala Lumpur.

An overnight trip with a morning flight on a Friday, and evening flight back on a Saturday. Where should we go?

We roamed around the airport for a little (window)shopping while waiting for our airport-hotel service. I was greatly surprised at how clean, huge and well-equipped the new budget airport of Kuala Lumpur is. The KLIA2 is the largest purpose-built terminal for low cost carriers. A budget terminal that is comparable to Singapore's Changi's Airport. It is spacious, well-equipped, with entertainment halls and stores. I wouldn't mind getting stuck here when flights get delayed, or when my country suddenly loses its sovereignty (remember the Terminal movie?)

For lunch, we had ramen in Mian Noodle Bar in the airport. An interesting story, how when Earth requested for sugar to stir in with her tea, the server refused and said that they don't put sugar in tea. Probably they find it off to alter the taste of their staple drink.

I found my favorite Chocolate Cake at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf! The Royal Chocolate Cake!

We found this nice cafe that uses old luggage as seats!

The KLIA2 is an-hour drive to the city. The roads and highways in Kuala Lumpur very much resemble the ones that we have in Manila. There are intersections that remind me of Osmena Highway and SLEX; the difference, they don't have ranging jeepneys in streets.

We stayed in a really nice boutique hotel called ALoft located in the Sentral, Kuala Lumpur. I would do a separate review of this hotel. Although I feel more relaxed staying at traditional hotels with Victorian-English ambiance, I found myself enjoying my stay in ALoft with its colorful interiors and industrial architecture.

Excited for the pool!

We only had a few hours after checking in to rest, and prepare for the Red Party. I took the time to check out the hotel facilities and get to know some of the hotel staff. We met a Filipina worker who is assigned in the ReFuel Bar. Majority of the hotel workers are from India.

We left the hotel at 6:00 PM, but we never expected the heavy traffic that stuck us in front of Petronas Towers. It was rainy. They say it always rains in the afternoon in Kuala Lumpur.

Visiting the Petronas Towers was not in the original plan, but it was as if a perfect call of universe! I asked our host if Mandarin Oriental Hotel (event venue) is walking distance from where we got stuck, and he said that we can walk a few blocks from the Petronas Towers. We got off the van and in our heels and mini-dresses, we walked down the street, passing BMWs to get a good view of the Petronas Towers!

Me and my human problems! My bladder was already complaining, but I stole a few minutes and took some shots with Petronas Towers on the background. A Malificent-esque shot!

Inside the Petronas Towers are stalls and shops in glitzy lights!

We got to the hotel just in time to mingle and have some cool mocktails.

The party ended just in time for us to head to the Roof Deck Bar of our hotel and have some drinks :)

The morning greeted me well, and I felt that I have not moved or changed a sleeping position. Our flight back to Manila was at 8:30 PM, and we needed to check out at 1:00 PM. Since we were staying in a really nice hotel. Earth and I decided to have breakfast in the Nook Restaurant and hit the pool.

I always bring swimwear whenever I travel just in case the hotel has a pool that we can use (there goes another travel tip!). Glad that I was able to convince Earth to bring a piece too!

Afternoon was spent in the mall. Foydi, Earth and I had Indonesian lunch and intimate talk. I never realize that I can get this close and intimate with people in the blogosphere that this trip doesn't seem like work, but more of leisure travel.

The mall beside our hotel is so huge with interesting architecture. It houses international brands like Cotton On, Sephora and Victoria's Secret. I was planning to buy some pieces but after a quick Ringgit to Peso conversion, it appeared that the prices are still expensive despite most of the items are on sale.

The new mall is connected to the MTR Station, which is to say that our hotel ALoft Sentral makes a good lodging place when staying in Kuala Lumpur.

I wish we had more time to roam around the city, but we didn't want to stress ourselves and battle with time and traffic. I find Kuala Lumpur a nice, and beautiful city. Probably, we stayed in an organized city (very much like Makati and Taguig) and we have not seen the different picture of Kuala Lumpur; but it is the opposite of how I initially expected it. Everything seem so organized in the city, people seem relaxed (even during rush hour), and the city has nice landmarks people can marvel at even when the sky is dark.

At around 5:30 PM, we were back in KLIA2 airport. Although our flight was delayed for an hour, I didn't mind. It gave us the chance to explore the airport more and have a good meal at McDonald's! Ah, comfort food! I cannot miss eating at McDonald's (or any fastfood chain) whenever I am out of the country. :) I love that the Spicy Chicken is more spicier in KL, and they offer happy meal featuring Mario Bros

I love the Priority Seats lapels! I love the KLIA2 and Kuala Lumpur City; the only thing that puzzled me is why are the ladies' comfort room flooring always damp? And I mean damp with runny water?

We landed back in Manila at 1:10 AM of Sunday. It was a smooth flight (smooth landing), except that two of the passengers seating behind us talked so loudly. Maybe they were just too excited to go back home, while I was too sleepy and dreaming of unicorns.

Thank you AirAsia for the fun trip to Kuala Lumpur. In the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is where I recently walked tall..
